Why Power Pumping Works
Milk production is based on supply and demand. The more frequently and effectively milk is removed, the more your body is signaled to make.
Power pumping:
• Increases stimulation to the breast
• Helps fully empty the breasts multiple times
• Sends a strong message to your body to “make more”
• Can be especially helpful during dips in supply, returning to work, or after illness
Many parents start to notice a difference within a few days though for some it may take up to a week of consistent effort.
How to Power Pump
You’ll set aside about one hour for a session. You can do this once a day (some do twice if recommended), and consistency is key.
Here’s a common schedule:
• Pump for 20 minutes
• Rest for 10 minutes
